Bill Hamilton

Bill Hamilton

Professional surfer

I thank my parents for my life and their decision to raise a family on the beach the year I was born in 1948. In an apartment over looking a vast Pacific ocean and the sands of Laguna beach California. I would spend many days naked with sand and salt water on my body. I was becoming a product of my environment and becoming an ocean person. At age 11 I became a surfer and I fell deeply in love with the adventure. I climbed the athletic ranks and at age 13. along with the Legendary Wind and Sea Surf Club , chartered a plane to Hawaii to compete in the Makaha International Championships, in 1963.

This experience would change my Life forever. I would move to Hawaii in 1966 after graduating from Laguna High. By now. I was considered to be one of the best surfers in the world. At seventeen and a half' I would marry and adopt a son, who would go on to become one of the Worlds greatest surfers of all time, Laird Hamilton. At age 22 I would have a son, Lairds brother Lyon. We moved from the North Shore of Oahu in 1970 to Kauai to experience a deep country life surrounded by the beauty of nature. We were the second white family to move into the North shore valley of Waineha in the history of that place. At age 77 I am still surfing and building surfboards 58 years later.
